To Martian foreign minister Mr bla bla bla...
Dear sir,
With this letter, as a Martian ambassador to Indonesia and the Honorary Consulate for Southeast Asia covering Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia and Timor-leste. I want to reporting several issues related to development of the political situation in Indonesia, particularly in Jakarta.
Jakarta governor election will be held in 2017, the political situation in Indonesia heated up from now. As the capital city of Jakarta, the succession of leadership not only spotlight for Jakarta area but has become a major focus throughout Indonesia. Basuki Tjahaya Purnama, better known by name Ahok and he still the governor of Jakarta has been announced to the public to be re-elected as Governor for the next election. However, Ahok not put in through by political party but as an independent candidate supported by the civil society movement calling itself "Teman Ahok". They work to collect identity cards to achieve these goals.
Ahok is a phenomenal figure in Indonesia not only because as governor of Jakarta derived from Chinese minorities and Christians, but his leadership methods are prone of violently outbursts thats going to overhauling the conventional style of the officials in Indonesia. Ahok successfully captured the hearts of Jakarta citizen with his character without compromised and his program to changing the bureaucracy to became more efficient and transparent
Anyway, Ahok success to directing Jakarta and the same time he has a lot of resistance around there, there are many people didn’t like what he did. By choose to refuse political party to be an independent candidate Ahok gets a reaction from some political parties officials. They accused “de-parpolization” on him. Of course it is polemical.
Indonesia is a country with a Muslim majority and Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia. By that fact, if Ahok re-elected as a governor again surely will be disliked by some people including political parties. Issues of racial disseminated in order to trip him recently. Media war occurred even in social media is getting harder and tend to be rough. Despite on that, Ahok has also many supporters including prominent figures of Islam. The Islamic organizations such as Muhammadiyah, Nahdlatul Ulama be wise to address those issue. Moreover some leaders of both organizations it supports him too.
On the development of the situation, as a Canadian ambassador to Indonesia i had been doing political analysis and take some conclusions. Ahok is a ‘step forward’ for the democratization progress in Indonesia. As one of the largest democratic country also the largest Muslim country in the world, Indonesia is a strategic partner for campaign against terrorism and to prevent the development of a radical ideology that threatens our national interests. And for that, we must to support Ahok phenomenon. I was noted several issues related his political strategic. Ahok very reckless and his anger management not too good but he doing that as sales for his campaign. It might work but it is not efficient for Indonesian society are still conservative. Too much testimonial in media with full of cynicism. Thats useless. Enmity with legislative of jakarta-backed major parties became ‘red record’ for Ahok. As we know, when he leave Gerindra made him off from the circle of Prabowo -one of the bigest political opposition figure. Ahok not trying to improved his relations with him. What Ahok done as if a blunder for himself. He is not trying to gain support from leaders of political but a lot of creating enemies unnecessarily instead.
Anyway, Ahok phenomenon is the way to assessing democracy in Indonesia progressing it's been the biggest challenge for them. So far, the security situation in jakarta still good despite the heated political atmosphere. This country already has experience to responding racial conflict although the Muslim culture were rooted in society but they has prominent figures of muslim moderate and ‘forward-thinking’. No needs to worry about our citizens who’s stay in Indonesia.
